AUTOHAND - AUTOMATED FILTRATION SYSTEM
A QUADRA 4 OR QUADRA-PLUS ACCESSORY

 

A new accessory for the Quadra 4 and Quadra-Plus™ provides full automation for filturation protocols. The AutoHand can receive a microplate from the stacker cassette and place it inside of the vacuum box as a capture plate or on top of the vaccum box as a automanted program control. It can also retreive a capture plate from within the vacuum box within a protocol. By alternate stacking of the filter plate and capture plate, within the stacker cassette, great flexibility for the protocol requirement is acheived.
Another feature of the Tomtec cassette stacker is the ability to infeed and outfeed various reagent reservoirs. Combined with the restacking ability between stackers, this creates the sorting function. Walk-away automation of complex protocols is dependent only on the operators creativity. The Quadra 4 or Quadra-Plus™ can do it.

The stations on the Quadra shuttle accommodate the working plate nests, six for the Quadra 4 and eight for the Quadra-Plus™. A wide variety of special nests are available. For those assays where the potential for carryover cannot be tolerated, an automated Tip Feeder is available. It both infeeds and outfeeds racks of 96 tips to the pipettor. A circulated Ultrasonic Tip Wash station is available with high precision positive displacement tips in both the 96 and 384 well format. Repeated tests have shown any carryover was lost in the inherent background. On one specific test, with saturated Fluroscein, the carryover was less than one in ten million (1x10 -7).
 
  The cassette stackers, utilizing the Vertical Space system, makes the Quadra 4 or Quadra-Plus™ equivalent to a fifty place deck on a flat bed pipettor. Except, the Quadra 4 does it in thirty inches of benchtop width and the Quadra-Plus™ in thirty-eight inches. Can you use additional benchtop space?


In addition to the AutoHand and automated vacuum box, the system includes a small automated vacuum trap. A vacuum regulator is included for those protocols requiring specific vacuum levels. The vacuum is turned on and off under program control.


Note: The AutoHand—Automated Filtration System must be ordered with the instrument. It is not field upgradeable. Tomtec does offer an exchange program for non-upgradeable units.
