The pre-eminence of the Quadra Cherry Picker is providing fast, high throughput, in a walk-away mode of operation. The twin infeed cassette stackers can be loaded with up to 100 source microplates. The eight tip Cherry Picker will make 100 picks from these source plate in one hour of unattended operation. There are three destination plates residing on the Cherry Picker shuttle. Thus, in one pass through the 100 plate infeed library, the requirements for three separate applications can be accomplished.

The incoming microplates can be any style meeting the SBS footprint, and can be mixed (96 and 384). The microplate bar code controls the entire operation, thus no defined order or pre-stacking is required. Multiple picks may be made from any plate.

The pipettor is Tomtec's novel positive displacement design (patented). It utilizes stainless steel needles that are Teflon coated inside and outside. They are capable of pipetting volumes as low as 0.5uL. Following the eight needle aspirate/dispense cycle, all eight pipettors are washed in a circulated, ultrasonic water bath. Various test methods have shown carryover is below the background system in use.

Programming is by a simple Excel format. The source plate is bar code identified; the source well is picked. The volume to be transferred is entered along with the destination bar code and well identifier. Single transfers may be made or aliquots may be delivered to more than on destination plate. A documented worklist CSV file is generated after the protocol is complete.
