First, the tip has a maximum volume of 450µL, making it the highest volume of any 96 well pipette tip. Fewer transfer passes are required to achieve the higher transfer volumes in sample extraction methods. |

| The second reason is related to the design of the tip. The long skinny tip end is designed to reach the bottom of deepwell microplates, commonly used in extraction protocols. It also provides a CV of 2% at 10µL. | |||||||||||||||||

The other design advantage is the ability to blow through the tips with air or nitrogen. When pipetting organics, it is necessary to titrate (make several aspirate/dispense motions) to fill the tip head space. This is required to eliminate dripping, due to the expansion of the volatile organics. When going back to aqueous, as is required in most protocols, it is necessary to eliminate the organic vapors in order to maintain precision when pipetting aqueous. The Quadra 3® SPE opens the pinch clamp, blowing air or nitrogen through the tips to purge the organics from the tip interior, allowing aqueous materials to be pipetted with precision. |
